London Trip! V&A, Tate and More!

So i went into London on Wednesday to visit the V&A on my own so i could spend some more time looking through the exhibitions and collections. The experience was actually quite rewarding as i had plenty of time to reflect and see the museum differently from the first time i went with my class mates. From about 11:00 to 14:00 i was wondering around the museum taking pictures, browsing what other people were doing, sipping coffee, looking into the type of people that visit the V&A and even had time to whip out the sketchbook to do some observational drawing.

I decided to take a wonder around London as i had some time to kill. I wanted to have a look at some of the V&A's competitors so i took a quick stroll across the road to the Natural History Museum. The atmosphere here was completely different and so was the audience that vacated the museum. There were far more children and the museum seemed to busy which i found slightly annoying which made it hard to look around the museum freely. One thing i did notice was the amount of interactive exhibitions which were swarming with children wanting to hit buttons and see lights and robotic elements move. This is one thing i think the V&A could take on which could possibly increase the amount of young people that attend.

So after having enough of being bumped into by busy tourist's and school groups i got the underground across the river to BlackFriars which is a tube station located near the Tate Modern. I thought i should go and visit as i haven't been in a while and it would be a good choice to use in the comparison to the V&A. Imediately i noticed the amount of people around my age that were inside the gallery's and exhibitions, they had clearly marketed themselves to be pretty "hip" and "trendy" to get this many teenagers in. What i really did love was the minimalistic approach to the branding and signage around the museum they were really clear and got straight to the point.

I plan on doing a further write up on each of the museum's and gallerys i visited however that will be in my sketchbook so i wont be able to get a copy on here so hopefully this will do. Feel free to have a look on my flickr for some of the pictures i took on the 27th of January however the quality was lacking due to the fact of me forgetting my damn camera battery.
